A Cultural Movement. A Living Archive. A Love Letter. Hip Hop Beauty is a cultural time capsule created to celebrate the beauty codes, hair innovations, makeup evolution, and visual language born from the neighborhoods, salons, sets, studios.

It is a living, traveling cultural institution honoring the artistry, innovation, and global impact of HipHop through the lens of beauty, fashion, art, and community.

Founders Story

Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks & Thembisa Mshaka Launched Hip Hop Beauty Circa 1973®️ at Art Basel 2025 MIAMI BEACH, FL made a historic cultural moment as Hip Hop Beauty Circa 1973 aka Hip Hop Beauty, in partnership with Gen Art, debuts its first multi-dimensional exhibition and immersive beauty experience at The National Hotel Miami on December 5, 2025. This unprecedented activation merges art, music, fashion, hair, and beauty—honoring the architects, innovators, and storytellers who shaped the global aesthetic power of hip hop over the last 50 years.

The exhibition officially opens December 4, 2025 and will remain on view for a five-month residency through Spring 2026, presented as part of The National Hotel x The Finicky Filly x Gen Art cultural partnership.
